Situated in natural bushland with plenty of shade surrounding a large dam on a 140 acre property just off the main highway 10km outside of Mareeba and 55km from Cairns, Shady Waters Camping offers bush camping in Tropical Far North Queensland. The location also serves as an ideal base from which to explore the Atherton Tablelands and the Far North.
There is plenty to do at the campground such as bushwalking, birdwatching, go for a swim, do some fishing (catch and release), or just relax by the water or the campfire and enjoy nature in true bush camping style.
The campground caters to fully self-contained campers only. Be it in your RV, Bus, Camper, Vehicle or a Tent or Swag, you need to be self-contained with at least your own portable toilet as no power, toilets or showers are available on site. Non-Potable water is available from the dam. Potable water is not available on site. Generators and small fires are permitted, with firewood available, and pets are welcomed provided they are kept on a leash.
The Campground operates on a leave it as you found it basis, so while rubbish bins are provided on site, all other waste must be taken with you.
There are no set campsites so you are free to set up camp anywhere you wish in one of the four areas of the campground. There is also a centrally located common area with a campfire to meet fellow travellers and enjoy a drink and watch the amazing sunsets.
We are open for the majority of the year with the exception of the wet season which as a guide runs from December to February and may require the closure of some or all of the camping areas. But check with us for availability. Bookings are essential.
