One of the budget camping spots most beloved by grey nomads has raised its fees, but there’s no need to panic … the overnight charge at SA’s Cleve RV Park has just gone from $15 to $20 per and it’s only been done ‘reluctantly’.
Originally the site was run by the Cleve Showgrounds, as a small park for overnight RVs to stay, with minimal services.
However, it has slowly developed and, since 2021, the local council has invested in upgrading the facilities, built a camp kitchen, and made the area more suitable for RVs to park.
Now run by the Cleve Agricultural, Horticultural and Floricultural Society, the scenic spot is close to the main town and shopping areas.

Society President, Lyndon Crosby, told the Grey Nomads that there were 40 powered sites available.
“We have a varied number of caravans stay overnight, depending on the time of year … it is usually around 10 to 20 per night,” he said. “We get excellent reviews from the travellers staying here, and the park is kept very clean with a cleaner and caretaker.”
Mr Crosby said the park’s toilets and showers had been renovated, and the area now has more water and power available.
“We are continuing to upgrade power and water sites,” he said. The overnight fees rose from $15 to $20 at the start of this month ‘to cover extra costs’.
Grey nomad Sandie DeLuca is one of the many travellers who has been impressed by the effort being made.
“The Agricultural Group of volunteers are so proud of what they are providing for the town that there are even fresh flowers in the toilet blocks!” she said. “The view they hold is that they aim to keep the town alive by keeping the fees for camping right down low to bring in the travellers so that not only the town survives but that the businesses being taken over by ‘the young ones’ prosper.”
WIN ONE OF THREE SKID ROW TRAILER SKIDS
Grey Nomad members are being given the opportunity to win one of three Skid Row Trailer Skids (each valued at $199). The ingenious Australian-designed device could come to the rescue of nomads who find their trailer or van stuck on sand, mud, or worse.
Manufactured from high-grade polypropylene, the ‘skid’ has been designed for use with or without the jockey wheel to accommodate different conditions in the retrieval process. The device is very compact (77cm x 39cm x 21cm), making it easy for grey nomads to store, and it weighs just 3.8 kilograms.
