Many Outback tracks have been closed following heavy rains that have reportedly washed cars from roads in northern South Australia. With many grey nomads plotting their routes north, it obviously makes sense to keep abreast of the weather situation and monitor road closures.
The Adelaide Advertiser reports that parts of roads connecting Mount Dare to Finke and Alice Springs looked more like river channels, and they will be closed for at least another couple of days.
Large stretches of Outback roads remain closed, including from Birdsville to Andamooka and back north to William Creek, Oodnadatta through to Marla.
There have been heavy and sustained downpours in many areas, including 56mm of rainfall in 24 hours at Kalamurina, near Lake Eyre.
Sandra Scott, the co-owner of Mt Dare Hotel near the SA/NT border, said surrounding roads had been flooded making them impassable.
“Apparently there are also parts of the Stuart Hwy which have been cut and cars washed off the road but that is only what we have heard,” she told the Advertiser. “We are a hotel and yes, there is plenty of beer, so we will be okay.”
