Just when you thought you had seen it all in terms of luxurious rigs on the road, along comes the world’s very first convertible motorhome!
RV maker, Skydancer, has just unveiled its double-decker-style Apéro which boasts the technology to allow grey nomads, or any other lucky traveller, to feel the wind in their hair as they cruise Australia’s endless Outback.
The vehicle, which was recently put on display at Germany’s CMT, Show has a two-tiered design with a living area on the lower level and the driver’s cockpit on the higher portion.
When open, the electrically operated roof lets sunshine into the upper level, and there’s seating for four people there to enjoy the breeze. The chairs can also be converted into a double bed for a night under the stars.
The living area also has a double bed, and there’s a kitchenette, and a bathroom complete with toilet and shower. To save room, the sink slides into the wall when not in use. There are 90-litre tanks for fresh and waste water.
The Apéro rides on a Fiat Ducato chassis and packs a 2.3-litre Multijet turbodiesel engine producing 148 horsepower (110 kilowatts).
To make life interesting, the gearshift rises up from the centre console when the driver inserts the key into the ignition.
Skydancer is only available in Europe for now, but there are plans afoot to expand it into other parts of the world. It would set prospective buyers back around A$200,000.
Oooohhhh do I what, wouldn’t I ?…. I would & could if I had the $$s, WOW, me & me dogs, we,d be off, wouldnt see us for dust, love some thing like that,
