Well what a tradgedy! Just before Easter holidays as well. I’m obviosly not armed with any proof of the incident at this point in time, but when I hear that a Caravan towed by a Landcruiser was involved, I Just hope it wasn’t a contributing factor in the chain of events that proceeded! Ive been towing caravans since 1986 and still do so, clocking up approx 180,000 Kms since then. I have experienced a lot of on road near misses and can say that some of this has a mixed bag of road users, car drivers, the odd semi trailer, but Ive exprienced a lot of it because what Ive experienced with Caravanners, older & younger, but in the last 4 years it has been mostly with the younger who have these Huge 4×4’s pulling these 20 – 25 foot caravans that have on occasion overtaken myself whilst I was just under the state speed limits. Im not trying to lay blame here but would like to see Mandateory Caravan towing Licensing being introduced into our National Road usuge regulations.
