The Spirit of Tasmania II, which was badly damaged in wild weather last week, has been repaired much more quickly than originally feared, and could be sailing again as early as tomorrow.
The ship was damaged when it broke its moorings during high winds in Melbourne and smashed into a boarding ramp.
TT-Line says it employees and contractors have worked ‘round-the-clock’ to repair the vessel and its return to active duty has now been approved by all the relevant authorities.
It will return in time to operate double sailings tomorrow and Monday.
“Quite simply, our team has done an outstanding job recovering from a significant unexpected incident,” Spirit of Tasmania chief executive, Bernard Dwyer, told the ABC. “I would also like to thank our passengers for their patience, understanding and messages of support since extreme winds led to Spirit of Tasmania II being damaged mid-week.”
He said there could be some delays to departure times over the next few days.
“We will be working hard to get the schedule back into proper alignment,” Mr Dwyer said.
Passengers can view an updated departure schedule on the company’s website.
