It was the test drive from hell! A would-be American motorhome buyer decided the on-the-road lifestyle might not be for him after he crashed into a house after just minutes behind the wheel of a luxury RV.
Emergency officials said a reported mechanical failure caused the driver to lose control and career into the dwelling during a test drive of the motorhome.
The Seattle PI newspaper reports that the 34-year-old driver freed himself from the wreckage and wandered around the neighborhood with a bloody head wound, looking for help. The occupants of the house in Seattle in the US state of Washington were not home at the time of the accident, and there were no witnesses to the crash.
The driver was eventually taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation of his head laceration. Emergency personnel discovered that the impact of the crash had severed the natural gas meter at the house, releasing volumes of high-pressure gas into the neighborhood.
Nearby homes were evacuated until a Puget Sound Energy crew could secure the leak. Local media reports that fire and rescue units were at the scene for nearly six hours. The department’s technical rescue team was called in to help a commercial tow truck extricate the motorhome from the house as safely as possible.
A structural safety survey of the house will now be conducted. Police are investigating the crash.
