A pet dog that disappeared from a campsite in America nearly two years ago has miraculously been reunited with its owners.
Five-year-old golden retriever, Murphy, was on a camping trip in California’s Tahoe National Forest when it was frightened by gunshots. The dog ran off and, despite a frantic search, owners Nathan and Erin Braun couldn’t find their beloved pet.
That was back in October 2012, but the Brauns never gave up. They posted fliers throughout the region and set up a Facebook page dedicated to finding Murphy.
They heard nothing … until a few weeks ago when a similar-looking dog was spotted near a camping area about eight kilometres from where Murphy originally went missing.
The Brauns were notified and they drove to the campsite, leaving their dogs’ old bed and some clothing behind. A week later the campsite host found Murphy sleeping on the blanket.
The dog was very thin and frail, but is now well on the road to recovery.
“After 20 long months of being in the Tahoe National Forest, Murphy has come home,” the family said. “As you can imagine we are completely shocked and amazed with the miracle of her surviving this long.”
The Brauns say that Murphy is “happy to be home with her family”.
