Detectives investigating caravan crime normally don’t have to worry about looking for a motive. When a thief hooks up a van and drives off, or an opportunist snatches an unlocked bike, or fishing rod or fridge from under the annexe, the reasons are pretty self explanatory … greed and financial gain.
However, police in the Victorian community have been left scratching their heads after a seemingly senseless and bizarre crime at the local Lions Club. Determined criminals cut through the wire fence of the club’s premises, tore the canopy covering a 1981 Jayco caravan and proceeded to carefully steal the caravan door.
Incoming club president Tom Henderson told the Star Weekly newspaper that whoever was involved in the theft was apparently specifically targeting the door because there was no other damage to the caravan, and nothing else had been taken.
“They’ve taken the time to unscrew the caravan door,” he said. “That’s all they’ve taken. We’re a community service trying to do the right thing – we’re gobsmacked.”
Werribee Police are investigating and have called on witnesses, or anyone with information about the theft, to call Werribee Police Station on 9742 9444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Maybe very valuable if you don’t have one and need one.

Made to order theft, original door in good condition for that age caravan would be as rare as, a grey nomad spending money.
