It’s been a long time coming but the South Australian town of Victor Harbor is finally set to install a public dump point as it seeks to attract more grey nomads and other travellers.
After eight years of discussion, the local council has just approved the Victor Harbor Tourism Information Bay on Adelaide Road as the preferred location for the facility. And, there are signs that a free or budget campsite could be next.
“This will be the beginning of a good relationship between the City of Victor Harbor and grey nomads who contribute to the region’s economy,” councillor Moira Jenkins told the Times newspaper. “We will continue to look for an appropriate site for low cost parking for self-contained RV vehicles, although it would be ideal to have a dump point and low cost camping area in the same location.”
Caravanners and motorhomers have long identified a need for both a dump point and a low cost camping area for self contained RV vehicles.in Victor Harbor, which is seen as the gateway to Kangaroo Island. The nearby towns of Yankalilla and Alexandrina both already have dump points.
* Do you visit Victor Harbor? Will the new dump point – and perhaps a new low-cost camping area – encourage you to stay longer?
Will now return, if the look after us we will return, very simple really
Victor Harbor needs to do something to attract RV`s, Try parking a large van to do some shopping when traveling through the town. An area that Caravans can park would be a big plus.
Yes, we do visit Victor Harbor and love the area. Our next trip to Victor Harbor, we are utilising a travel auction deal to try and keep the costs down. However, we would stay longer and possibly visit more often if there was a free or low cost camping option available.
Free or low cost camping would be fantastic and we certainly would make use of it. Wining and dining is the one we like to spend our money on not expensive caravan parks.
Would visit in a heartbeat if dump points provide and a free stay a must.
We will spend time there if it’s free or cheap. Then we will have more money to spend in your town
Victor Harbor is a very special holiday destination to us. We have been caravanning to Victor since the mid ’70’s. Having toured a lot of Australia, experiencing low-cost camping and the many dump points available, we feel that these facilities would be beneficial in attracting more grey nomads to the area. I know we would visit more often.
Yes it would. The existing caravan parks do nothing for me at all. Be nice to be able to free camp and a dump point would be an added incentive to bring the van down to Victor.
An area to park the van near shops so that we can shop locally and a dump point as bonus
A dump point with a free camp close by would be fantastic in Victor Harbour! We would certainly visit this beautiful area more often as we like to play golf here. We’d spend our money in the town at cafes, supermarkets and fuel. Many Grey Nomads with self contained RVs do not require many of the facilities that expensive caravan parks provide.
