The inspiration for Grafton’s famous Jacaranda Festival is clearly the hundreds of lilac-blossomed trees which grow in the town’s broad tree lined avenues. The festival was first held back in 1934 as a way for local people to give thanks for the natural beauty with which this part of northern New South Wales has been blessed. There are numerous events held throughout the duration of the festival … but the jacaradas themselves will always be the star attraction for grey nomads and other visitors.
