A gas explosion in a caravan on the Cairns northern beaches last night left a young man in hospital with burns to his legs.
The Cairns Post reports that emergency services rushed to the Cairns northern beaches after reports of a gas explosion in a caravan at Trinity Beach, with fears the caravan may be alight.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokeswoman told the newspaper the fire was out when crews arrived.
“The occupant had extinguished the fire which was caused by the explosion of an LPG gas cylinder,” she said. “Queensland Ambulance Services treated the man at the scene while fire crews completed gas monitoring to ensure the site was then safe.”

A QAS spokesman confirmed a man in his 20s was taken to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition with burns to his legs.
It is the latest in a spate of caravan incidents in Queensland in recent days.
Last week, a caravan caught on fire at South Nanango. No one was injured in the incident on the D’Aguilar Highway.
And a few days earlier, South Burnett Online reports that a caravan was wrecked on the Bunya Highway near Wooroolin after it suffered a suspected mechanical failure. Again, there were no injuries.

I believe there was an explosion caused by leaking gas or a gas tap left on. I do not believe that the gas cylinder exploded.
It is impossible for those cylinders to explode under normal conditions.I would probably blame the incident on a disposable canister exploding on a portable stove
A gas cylinder, re-usable or disposable is either full of gas under pressure or full of gas with no pressure (empty), there is no oxygen in the cylinder so, how can it “explode”? Journalistic BS in my opinion.
