Grey nomads lend a hand at flood-devastated farms

Published: March 5, 2019

The recent floods in Outback Queensland have been unbelievably destructive and created untold heartache, but they have also led to an outpouring of kindness and goodwill.

As is often the case in these situations, grey nomads have been heavily involved in helping out in rural communities that are doing it tough.

Images of endless lines of dead cattle have proved especially powerful in triggering volunteers to offer a lending hand where they can.

Ren Field, who with her partner Cameron Archer, have property north of Winton, told Queensland Country Life that when she posted her pictures of devastating stock losses online she was inundated with offers of help from all over Australia.

And she says there were no shortage of people registering as volunteers to help with the rebuilding of other properties.

“There have been lots of male grey nomads who have made contact offering to do fencing and the heavy outside work, while their wives offer domestic help and child minding,” she told Queensland Country Life. “It has been absolutely incredible and has certainly restored my faith in humanity … in times like these it really makes you realise how incredible people really are.”
