‘Forgetful’ overseas driver drifts to wrong lane

Published: November 22, 2012

Wandering wildlife such as camels are not the only imported species causing potential problems for grey nomads on our roads.
Forgetful overseas drivers are another one to look out for … at least judging from a recent incident in New Zealand. A campervan carrying six tourists from the United States was apparently on the wrong side of the road when it collided with a car near Kaikoura in the South Island.
No-one was seriously injured in the crash which happened soon after the campervan turned out onto State Highway 1.
Constable Tony Willetts, of Kaikoura, told the Marlborough Express newspaper that the tourist driver “momentarily forgot” to drive on the left. The oncoming car was able to slow down before the two vehicles collided. No charges will be laid.
