There has been another explosion at a caravan park.
Police say that in the early hours of this morning a blast ripped apart a mobile home at a caravan park at Atkinson Dam near Coominya, 80 kilometres west of Brisbane.
Queensland police say they’ve been able to locate one occupant of the mobile home, but a second occupant is still unaccounted for.
The explosion comes less than a week after a blast at the Sundowner Willows Caravan Park on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula left a 74-year-old man fighting for his life.
The man was flown to The Alfred hospital after having suffered burns to 40% of his body. His injuries were described as ‘life-threatening’.
Police suspect the fire was triggered by a gas explosion.
While the cause of the latest caravan park explosion has yet to be established, there have sadly been many cases in which gas bottles have been blamed.
Last year, a man died in hospital after a gas bottle exploded in his caravan at Casino’s Glen Villa Resort and left him with burn to 80% of his body.
That explosion prompted police to warn grey nomads and others of the need for caution when using gas bottles.
Despite that, two people were badly burnt when a gas bottle exploded at Rocky Point campsite north of Cairns in February this year.
