The Queensland Government is to close all campgrounds in national parks, state forests and state managed recreation and protected areas, effective tomorrow.
Minister for Environment and the Great Barrier Reef Leeanne Enoch said this decision is consistent with the expert medical advice of the state’s Chief Health Officer.
“As the Easter school break approaches, closure of the campgrounds will help protect the health and safety of campers, the wider community as well as Queensland Park and Wildlife Service (QPWS) rangers and staff,” Minister Enoch said. “Queenslanders should cancel their Easter break plans and stay close to home.”
Ms Enoch said shared facilities in campgrounds, like toilets and showers, was a significant concern.
“There are around 470 camping areas in Queensland’s parks and forests and QPWS rangers will immediately be contacting members of the public who are currently at camp sites, and those who have booked a site,” she said.
Day-use areas, tracks and trails will remain open at this stage and social distancing rules will still apply.
The closure of camping grounds does not include residential caravan parks.
People who have campsites booked will receive a full refund for unused camping permits.
So just close the toilet blocks so only self sufficient grey nomads can camp there. Where the hell are we supposed to go now? I can’t afford overpriced caravan parks, plus I hate them anyway.
Go home
It’s easy for you to say that, you have somewhere obviously to return too. I agree with the gentleman above close this facilities and the limit the number to access the sites to meet the government regulations. I can’t find anywhere to stay around where I do some casual work. I now will be setting up in road side truck stops
Macrossan, Ravenswood and Fletcher Creek QLD CLOSED. Police will be monitoring and heavy fines.
As Peter said, go home….if you have a base. If not, Bob may have to move around non QPWS free camps, until the restrictions stop. Dare say that local authorities will enforce stay restrictions also in RV Friendly areas?
Camps Australia publication might be a good start Bob, if you haven’t got it already.
