Grey nomads charged with using van to traffic drugs

Published: October 29, 2013

Proving that you never really know who you’re camping next to, a grey nomad couple has been charged with drug trafficking following a search of their car and caravan.

Police from the Serious Organised Crime Branch allegedly found 16 bags of cannabis, weighing a total of 7.25kg, hidden in a secret compartment in the caravan’s undercarriage.

A police spokesperson said the couple from the Fleurieu Peninsula were stopped on the Mallee Highway at Lameroo, South Australia.
It is alleged the man, 64, and woman, 62, were intending to traffic the cannabis interstate.

“Police allege the undercarriage of the caravan had been modified with a purpose-built compartment which contained 16 individual packages which had about 450g of cannabis in each,” the spokesperson said. “The cannabis and the caravan have been seized and an application will be made for forfeiture of the caravan pursuant to Confiscations of Profit legislation.”

Investigations as to the origin of the cannabis are continuing.

The Border Mail newspaper reports that the couple, who were charged with trafficking in a commercial quantity of cannabis, were granted bail and will appear in the Berri Magistrates Court on November 25.

You would have to be joking Rex, oldies financing their trips this way,They deserve to be caught, and anyone else who tries to sell it, I have seen many families lives wrecked because of drugs starts of with pot then it gets to the harder stuff, you would think people at their age would have more sense. HPOE THEY GET STUNG HARD.
