A proposal to develop an RV park at Gympie Showgrounds has apparently been given a warm response by the local community. The idea was put forward last year as part of Gympie Regional Council’s 10-year master plan to upgrade Adrian McClintock Park … and it looks like a winner. Public submissions on the plan are due to close tomorrow, and most people seem to recognise that increasing usage of the showgrounds will provide the region with economic and tourism benefits.
The Gympie Times reports that a drop-in community consultation morning last Saturday attracted more than 30 residents who provided constructive feedback.
When the proposal was initially floated, Councillor Rae Gate said an RV park closer to town would encourage tourists to explore the area.
“If it can be approved then that would encourage tourists who are travelling through Gympie to actually stay in Gympie for a couple of nights and actually have a look at our area,” she said. “And hopefully put some of their money back into our local economy.”
A positive move as Gympie has a lot to offer rvers but up to now parking of bigger vechiles would cause problems
Definitly a good idea , most vanners stay in a town that welcomes them with cheap [or free] overnight stay areas
Are there no existing caravan parks in or near Gympie as I was hoping to call in.
Good one council! I recall the days when there was a move to shut down the roadside camp just south of the town, but the then mayor Varnados pretty much said “over my dead body” .. It seems now council has seen the economic benefit of encouraging people to stay a while .. provided the visitors respect the hospitality and reciprocate by spending some money in the town of meals/fuel/souveniers/ whatever, it will be to the community’s benefit.
Show ground is good — the park to the south and to the north are also good.
I am secretary for a very small caravan club only 8 members and I would like to know if the Gympie Showgrounds allows camping there for a week by small clubs please. We usually go from the 3rd Wednesday of each month for 1 week.
Is caravan camping available at Gympie Showground from tomorrow the 12/6/19 for 2 nights
We certainly would we r a small group of friends 5 vans in total looking for Showgrounds to stay at. We go for 1 week every month travelling from Brisbane.
