In a result that should come as no shock to grey nomads sitting somewhere in our sunny paradise sipping a beer or a wine, Australia has been officially named as the world’s happiest country …. again!
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) measures 11 factors to gauge general wellbeing in a country … community, education, environment, civic engagement, health, housing, income, jobs, life satisfaction, safety and work-life balance.
The Better Life Index declared Australia the world’s happiest industrialised nation for the third year running, apparently boosted by strong indicators for health and housing.
Life expectancy in Australia is 82 years – two years above the OECD average, while 90% of people say they are satisfied with their housing situation, more than the OECD average of 87%.
Sweden came out second in the happiness rankings, with Canada third. America was sixth, the UK tenth and New Zealand eleventh.
The complete top 10 were: 1. Australia; 2. Sweden; 3. Canada; 4. Norway; 5. Switzerland; 6. United States; 7. Denmark; 8. Netherlands; 9. Iceland; 10. UK

I knew nothing at all about Grey Nomads until I joined this forum and discovered a bunch of grey haired kids having the time of their lives. It was a real eye opener for me. I’d always thought of older people as permanent fixtures at RSL clubs or on bowling greens, bitching about their aches and pains. Hehe.
We are fortunate enough to be able to say that we have a 5 star unit to live in anywhere we chose in this great country of ours. From Tassie to Cooktown to Perth and Darwin.
