The monster heatwave is seeing the temperatures soar beyond the 40 degree mark in places across New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, and parts of Victoria … and grey nomads are being urged to take care to avoid heat-related illnesses including dehydration and heat stroke.
Yesterday, Tarcoola in Outback South Australia recorded a high of 48.2C, making it Australia’s hottest town. Parts of Sydney are in the 40s, and Birdsville hit 45 degrees, with worse to follow.
By way of contrast, Perth hit a high of just 17.4C yesterday
Health experts are warning that people must take the extreme heat seriously to avoid serious illness or worse.
A cooler change is expected to arrive in New South Wales first on Sunday.
