A grey nomad couple has been taken to hospital in Rockhampton after a caravan rollover on the Bruce Highway about 50 kilometres north of Marlborough.
The RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service says a male and a female, both 75, had to be cut from the wreckage at the crash site before being airlifted to hospital.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the accident was caused by a vehicle colliding with a caravan. When emergency services arrived, they found a four wheel drive attached to a caravan on its side with the two occupants trapped inside. The vehicle and caravan left the road and rolled into trees lining the highway.
The male is in the intensive care unit after suffering head and chest injuries. The woman, who initially complained of neck pain, is now stable and resting in one of the wards.
The accident happened shortly after 6am this morning.
Terrible tragedy – wishing them a speedy recovery.
