Kununurra caravan park under threat from bushfire

Published: September 16, 2017

Grey nomads and others staying at the Hidden Valley Caravan Park in Kununurra are being urged to either leave or get ready to defend as a bushfire nears.

The West Australian newspaper reports that a ‘watch and act’ level alert is in place for those staying in the van park.

The warning came as a suspicious fire in Mirima National Park, which was reported about midday, burns in a north westerly direction towards the caravan park.

Mirima National Park has been closed while emergency services deal with the bushfire on the edge of Kununurra. The West Australian reports that no roads have yet been closed, but motorists have been asked to avoid the area, drive carefully and reduce their speed.

An alert from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services warns there is a possible threat to lives and homes.

Other suspicious fires are also burning near Halls Creek and on the Victoria Highway between Lake Argyle Road and Crossing Falls Road.
