Gibb River Road store open for business again

Published: May 16, 2016

Just over a year after its surprise closure, the Imintji store on Western Australia’s remote Gibb River Road has re-opened its doors.

The news will come as a boost to grey nomads planning a trip along the iconic 660-kilometre track this dry season, as it was one of only two roadhouses on the route. When the store closed abruptly just before last year’s dry season, there were fears that it may never re-open again.

Until June 4, the store will be open Monday to Saturday from 9am-11am and from 2pm-5pm. After June 5 until the onset of the wet season, the store will be open Monday to Sunday from 9am-5pm.

Travellers are asked to note that diesel is the only fuel that will be available.

A press release from the Imintji Aboriginal Corporation said that, as well as wi-fi and an art centre, the locations would soon boast a camping ground for grey nomads and other travellers to stop at.

“So, we invite you to come on out and support our store and have a coffee with us and visit our art centre,” it said. “Or even camp at our new to be open campground with hot showers and beautiful views.”
