Jindabyne illegal campers will face ice-cool reception

Published: June 22, 2021

The Snowy Monaro Regional Council in New South Wales has re-endorsed its recent decision to crack down on illegal camping in and around Jindabyne this winter.

The council has been increasingly concerned by the numbers of informal campers in the alpine region surrounding the snow resorts. Every year, it has been receiving more complaints from residents about anti-social behaviour, littering, and illegal dumping.

At its recent meeting the council sought to remind the public that, in the Snowy Monaro, no one is permitted to camp, in a car, van, tent or otherwise, outside of campgrounds, caravan parks, or other formal accommodation. It says camping in a car park is not allowed, and there will be regular patrols to enforce these regulations.

Signage has been erected at the Claypits carpark at the Jindabyne foreshore and other common informal camping areas including through the streets. A strategy of education, advising, warning, and if all else fails, fining, has been in use to educate the public and address this ongoing problem.

As part of this re-endorsement, Council will be engaging in a renewed education campaign to inform the public of what the restrictions mean for them.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Council had to adopt a formal policy banning camping in public spaces in and around Jindabyne.

The New South Wales State Government requirement, which is still in place, that all public accommodation facilities have a Covid Safe plan in place and enforced was not, and is not, possible under the circumstances.

Have a bit of (p)latitude, Tony. Given it’s as cold as a witch’$ heart in Jindabyne, and you’re asking William for pointer$, you’ve neglected to tell him as to whether or not you have a *GP$* so that he can provide you wit..err..with Jindabyne’$ dollar..err..*polar* coordinate$. ;^ )

If you’re wanting to camp in Jindabyne in snow season then you’re obviously planning on hitting the slopes and if anyone can afford to pay the over $100 a day lift passes to do that then the high prices of the caravan parks in the area are the least of their problems!
If you want bargain camping, don’t go to popular tourist destinations in peak season. Plenty of cheap and free camping out in rural non-tourist areas.
I’m pretty sure the people trying to free camp at Jindabyne aren’t grey nomads but more likely to be 20-somethings in campervans who prefer to spend their money on lift passes and apres-ski booze!

You are “begging the question” (assuming something not yet proven) writ large when you say that someone is “obviously planning on hitting the $lope$…” just because it’s snow season. Keeping one’s cold hard-earned cash clo$e at hand gives one a warm feeling in this economic climate. ;^ )

Skiing is not everything, I believe many people are happy to just spend some time in the beautiful outdoors, they love the solitude, and no, they do not need to ski! Why the need to judge others so quickly?

Why don’t the authorities up the ante and make it illegal for anyone to contract Covid and issue hefty fines to those who become infected, and who knows…it might, just like a di$ea$e, cash..err..catch-on? Remember too that the acronym C.A.M.P. stands for C.ampaigners A.gainst M.oral P.er$ecution. If any caravan park charges too much for you to stay there, then always give them a 5 cent piece. When they ask you why you’re giving them 5 cents, tell them it’s for them to put towards buying themself a horse. When they then ask why do you think they need to have a horse, you then tell them that Ned Kelly had one, and he too was a very well-known bu$hranger! Just like travellers…word get$ around! There is no law against travellers having a sign on the rear of their caravan/camper/mobile home listing all the caravan parks and camping grounds that they would’ve *dear*_ly liked to have patroni$ed…but didn’t. Oh *dear*, how $ad…never mind. Just move on. “The dog$ are barking…but the caravan move$ on.” T$k.

Where there’s $moke, there’s FIRE, and by not being duped into paying exorbitant fee$ ($ave for the 5 cent piece) to ripoff merchant$…you’re effectively giving ’em the zack (sixpence)..err..$ack.
My key-pad operates just like a player piano given (w)it’s music’s on a (d)roll. ;^ )

Caravan Parks can offer Discounts to Seniors or just reduce the nightly rates or discount on weekly stays – make it affordable for all travellers.

One way to start reducing camping fees is for someone to form a group of people to run a lottery syndicate where all travellers kick-in just a few measly dollars weekly to this syndicate which will purchase tickets in ALL of our national lotteries. The ‘outlay’ of these few dollars weekly can easily come from all those travellers (‘outlier$’) who choo$e to save heap$ of money by bypa$$ing rip-off caravan parks. Money for jam_boree! The huge syndicate when it wins jackpot$ can then buy existing caravan parks for a reasonable price and/or build new ones and then form *company town$* (wiki) around them. From little thing$…big thing$ grow! Just the veiled threat of *this* will induce those existing caravan park owners who charge like bull$@gate$ to seriously think about lowering their fees quick-$mart before they are gainfully-gazumped by caravanning competition ‘on the road to Dama$cu$’. Geniu$ like$ company (town$). Would you rather ‘$tand and deliver’ big buck$ to bu$hranger$ and end up on the $kid$ or brake (sic) with tradition and pay just a couple of dollars weekly into a huge syndicate belonging to you&your financial fellow travellers? Happy hour could be used to gather syndicate subscriptions on-tap where everyone can then rai$e a few wet one$ to the health of their financial fellow$hip. ;^ )
