New self-propelled caravan brings all-electric Big Lap dream ever closer

A US-based startup company has just unveiled the Pebble Flow, a 100% electric caravan, which will reportedly define a new way to work, live and to explore.

Using innovative technology to advance the RV industry toward sustainability, Pebble says its new self-propelled van provides just the right amount of power required to assist the tow vehicle, thus removing the range anxiety common with EV towing.

Basically, it says it wants to bring the ease of use of an iPhone to the RVing experience.

“The Pebble Flow embodies a new era in RVing – one that’s sustainable and frictionless,” said Bingrui Yang, the Founder and CEO of Pebble. “We’re embracing advancements in electrification and automotive technology to streamline the end-to-end experience.”

The Pebble Flow’s dimensions are 7.63m L, 2.28mW, and 2.64mH, with a required towing capacity of 2,812kg.

The Pebble Flow is 100% electric and its renewable energy capacity will enable users to stay off-grid for up to seven days. The company says its key features are:

  • 45 kWh LFP battery: Has the safest EV battery chemistry on the market with enough capacity to power all of the van’s appliances.
  • Universal Charging: Charge how you want. AC/DC charging at public charging stations, at home, or at camp, solar charging for up to a week of off-grid power, and regenerative charging to generate power while you tow it.
  • 1kW Integrated Solar: Allows for self-charging on the go or when parked, so it’s always topping off its power supply.
  • Emergency Battery Use Case: Best of all, the Pebble Flow is never idle. When parked at home, it can be used as an emergency backup source.

But there is a lot more to the innovative caravan – or travel trailer as the Americans call them – than that. The Pebble Flow also includes advanced technology that has never been seen before in the RV industry which aims to simplify the hardest parts of Rving, and eliminate long-standing hassles.

  • Easy Tow: With Pebble Flow’s dual-motor Active Propulsion Assist System, towing is finally safe and effortless, whether you’re towing with an SUV or a pick-up truck, a petrol vehicle or an EV. No more range anxiety.
  • Magic Hitch: Never struggle with a hitch again. The Pebble Flow positions itself and automatically hitches onto the towing vehicle.
  • InstaCamp: The push of a button deploys or retracts an awning, stairs, lights, and auto-leveling stabilisers to set up camp or get back on the road in seconds.
  • Remote Control: Never back up again. Once unhooked from the hitch, the Pebble Flow is fully remote-controlled for easy parking and maneuvering, effortlessly pivoting and positioning itself into tight spots.

All of these features are controlled by the Pebble app, giving users control over every part of the RVing journey from the palm of their hand. The company says operating the Pebble Flow will be similar to the first time operating an iPhone – there’s no manual required …  it just works.

“So many people will never embark on an RV trip simply because they are intimidated by how to do it,” said Stefan Solyom, Pebble’s CTO. “The combination of advanced modern EV features and the Pebble app makes RVing easier than ever, whether you’re a seasoned RVer or just starting out.”

In the US, the Pebble Flow will be available starting at US $109,000, and expected to ship by the end of 2024.
