Do you try to avoid driving on the Bruce Highway if you can?

It’s not known as the safest of roads and 57% of respondents to our recent poll on the subject said they went out of their way to avoid driving on the Bruce Highway.

“Way too much traffic and congestion,” said Peter M.

“The inland route is more interesting,” said Paul G. “And it has cheaper camping and far less trucks.”

John D was no Bruce fan, either.

“I will not get on that road if at all possible,” he said.

However, David B – who has towed his 21’6 Jayco Sterling from Rockhampton to Kurrimine Beach every year for the past 12 years – was more forgiving.

Driving the Bruce Highway

“It’s not a problem at all, just be courteous to the B-Double drivers taking our food supplies to the southern markets and life will be wonderful,” he said. “If everyone using this main thoroughfare would observe the road signs and use common sense, it is as safe as any other road.”

Robert R agreed. “The road is okay,” he said. “The problem is the idiots who use it!”
