A camper in South Australia’s Riverland region has died after being struck by lightning.
The tragedy reportedly unfolded in Eba about 10 kilometres east of the town of Morgan, where it’s understood the 29-year-old man and his brother were camping.
Morgan is about two hours north-east of Adelaide,
9News reports that the man died at the scene. His brother had been standing only metres away.
Farmer David Modistach told the broadcaster it was an intense storm.

“We haven’t had storms like that here for years and it was good to see, but there was a lot of lightning and thunder,” he said. “You’re pretty unlucky to be hit.”
One of the ambulances called to the emergency also reportedly became bogged on its way in.
Riverland locals and visitors told 9News they were stunned by the man’s death.
Tourist Trevor Monti called it a ‘terrible tragedy’.
“It would be very difficult for his family and those around him,” Monti said.
In a brief statement, police confirmed the man died at the scene.
Police are preparing a report for the coroner.

In 2016, a 39-year-old man was killed by lightning at Cornerstone College in the Adelaide Hills.
Like many areas, South Australia’s Mid North and Riverland have been pummelled by storms and bad weather which has seen several highways closed because of flooding.
