With lockdown restrictions easing today in many parts of regional New South Wales there has been a rush to get back out on the road.

Caravan parks on the Mid North and North Coast say they have been fielding hundreds of phone calls ever since news of the eased restrictions broke.

North Coast Reflections Park operations manager Jennifer Scot told the ABC that  phones went ‘off the hook’ across parts of the state that are coming out of lockdown.

“We had 660 calls to parks that are able to open up,” she said. “People are just looking to get out and enjoy a holiday, in a safe environment.”

Ms Scott told the ABC that caravan parks are well prepared to comply with Covid-safe measures, after almost two years of the pandemic.

“As far as the four-square metre rule, two-square metre rule, Covid declaration forms, the Covid wipe down, we’re so ready,” she said.

It’s the same story with farmstays. on the New South Wales north coast.

Kirsty Perry, manager of the Hosanna Farmstay in the Tweed Valley, said have been busy taking bookings.

“We were hoping for this, especially with school holidays coming up, so we’ve mobilised our team and we’re ready to go,” she said. “We had people on all of our platforms begging us to book in.”

Ms Perry told the ABC they had only been given two hours’ notice when the state-wide lockdown was announced nearly a month ago.

“We had to walk from campsite to campsite and tell people to pack up and leave while giving them full credit to come back,” she said. “We’ve had to cancel $100,000 worth of bookings in the last few weeks and heading into school holidays as well.”

Ms Perry said they were a small family-run and family-owned business so the challenges, and the uncertainty, of the past 12 months or more, had been difficult to navigate and to manage.
