As interest in the caravanning and camping lifestyle continues to surge, many caravan park operators are looking at investing in improved infrastructure … especially the loos!
Queensland’s Coolum Beach Holiday Park – which is run by the Sunshine Coast Council – is the latest to do so, announcing a new sustainable and accessible amenities block will be built, thanks to a $1.6m investment.
Last month, demolition works started on the old building, with the new building set to include amenities and showers for all campers, including those living with a disability. It will also feature outdoor showers for those coming straight from the beach to the campsite, as well as laundry space.
As is becoming the norm, a big focus has been put on the design of the amenities block to maximise sustainability.
“As Australia’s most sustainable region it was imperative the building was equipped with solar power generation, battery storage and rainwater harvesting for use in flushing toilets,” Sunshine Coast Council Division 9 councillor, Maria Suarez, told the Sunshine Coast News. “The north-facing roof is ideally positioned to maximise the capture of solar energy … the materials, fittings and fixtures have been selected to withstand the coastal environment, achieve longevity and reduce maintenance costs.”

Coolum Beach Holiday Park is set on four hectares and, like all of council’s holiday parks at Dicky Beach, Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Cotton Tree and Mudjimba, is on prime beach frontage.
Coolum Beach Holiday Park Manager Nicole Filippini said the upgrade would be well received.
“Constant park improvements always add to a positive experience for the guests,” she told the Sunshine Coast News. “As a result of the pandemic, the industry has grown in the last two years and the popularity of caravanning and camping around Australia is massive.”
Cleanliness is most important to us as the loos are used by a large number of campers. The new look facility sounds amazing.
