WA’s iconic Karijini National Park has undergone a major transformation and said ‘goodbye corrugations, hello sealed bitumen roads with visitors now enjoying a smoother ride to some of the park’s most popular gorges.
Pilbara Parks and Wildlife Service ranger, Duncan McNicol, says peak season visitors are thoroughly enjoying the new roads, day-use areas, lookouts … and the full gorges.
The upgrades, valued at $21.2 million, have just been officially opened.

Tourism Minister, Rita Saffioti, said top attractions and infrastructure were a critical part of tourism success.
“Ensuring sites like Karijini National Park remain worldclass is so important, so they can continue attracting hundreds of thousands of people a year,” she said. “Importantly, these new facilities will have a positive flow-on effect to local operators, who rely on good infrastructure to keep attracting visitors.”
Karijini attracts more than 650,000 visits a year.
