While some may argue that anybody able to travel Australia indefinitely in a caravan or motorhome has already won the proverbial lottery, one super lucky grey nomad has gone one better and won the real thing!
A New South Wales woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, has just scooped $985,744 after buying a 12-game QuickPick entry from the Fresh Fields Casket Agency in the Queensland town of Proserpine.
She said she was sitting on the bed in her caravan marking the numbers off her ticket when things began to get very exciting.
“I kept marking the same line all the time and, as I got to the last number, I was too scared to look … but sure enough there it was!” she said. “I went very quiet as I was in a caravan park and I can’t very well go silly … it’s amazing! I’m so happy!”
The ovejoyed winner told the Daily Mercury newspaper that she has already clocked up tens of thousands of kilometres travelling Australia, and her win will only lift her ‘Big Lap’ to new heights … although she also sees an overseas adventure in her near future.
“I want to spend time with my family and grandchildren and this means we can all go together,” she said. “I feel very lucky. We’ve had enough bad luck in our lives, so we’re happy to have something to help out and make my family a little happier and life a little easier.”
And, given that Proserpine also sold a $2 million winning ticket just six weeks ago, the town that was hit hard by Cyclone Debbie recently is ready to cash in on its ‘lucky lottery town’ status.
The outlet which sold the latest winning ticket said that while this was its first division one winning entry sale, it had previously sold a couple of division two winning entries.
“Hopefully the first of many to come for our customers!” Barbara Cochrane from Fresh Fields Casket Agency told the Daily Mercury. “We’ve had a lot of grey nomads travelling through the region during recent weeks and it’s great to see so many visiting us again … buy your tickets in Proserpine, it is definitely the place to be.”
