Valentine’s Day may be behind us for another year … but that doesn’t mean that romance has died in grey nomad caravans and motorhomes.
Indeed, new research shows that love is very much in the air when couples load up the rig and head out on the open road.
A study of 1,500 caravanning and camping couples in the UK has revealed that a whopping 80% believe their love has blossomed as a result of the shared interest.
Some 60% put the surge in the ‘loveometer’ down to the fact that travelling meant they spent more ‘quality time’ together.
And 44% said that being up close and personal in their caravan or motorhome helped them learn the valuable lessons of ‘tolerance, patience and a willingness to compromise’.
Australian clinical and health psychologist, Dr Bob Montgomery says when long-term partners know just about everything there is to know about each other, visiting new places together as grey nomads, sharing new experiences and making new friends can deliver a relationship tonic.
Nonetheless, Dr Montgomery also warns that the sudden loss of valuable ‘private time’ also means it is a great idea for grey nomads to pursue ‘separate’ hobbies they always wanted to try such as reading painting or photography.
Interestingly, the British survey didn’t record how many respondents said they had been driven bonkers by the reality of living in extremely close quarters with a partner they thought they knew for 24 hours a day, seven days a week!
