The dangers that wandering wildlife pose to grey nomads and other Outback travellers has been graphically illustrated by a tragic accident in Central Queensland.
A 55-year-old man has died after he was thrown from his motorcycle after hitting a cow and then being struck by a passing four-wheel drive.
Police said the man was injured in the initial collision about 30 kilometres south of Blackwater and was being helped by witnesses who stopped at the scene. A four-wheel drive travelling on the same road then hit the man, killing him instantly.
The police forensic crash unit is investigating. The accident happened at about 6pm yesterday.
The male driver of the four-wheel drive was not hurt.
