In a surprise decision that will be welcomed by grey nomads and other travellers, the South Australian Government has announced its borders to Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory will re-open from midnight tonight.
The change means travellers from those jurisdictions will no longer need to isolate themselves for 14 days when they arrive in South Australia. State Premier, Steven Marshall, says the possibility of opening the Queensland border is also under consideration.
“It’s important for me to point out this doesn’t mean that those jurisdictions have lifted their borders for South Australians going into their jurisdictions,” he said. “What we are effectively doing is removing the border on our side … that means that we should see more people travelling into South Australia.”
South Australia announced last week that it was planning to open up its borders to all states and territories by July 20.
“We didn’t make a decision on Queensland today, but it’s likely we will again meet later this week or early next week and we can again consider whether we can remove that state border with Queensland,” he said. “We are still concerned about New South Wales and Victoria … the ACT has done particularly well, and I’m sure that’s something that’s going to be considered by that transition committee in the coming meetings.”
Deputy Chief Public Health Officer Mike Cusack warned against complacency, and said more Covid-19 cases were to be expected throughout the country.
“I think it’s an important point to make that we will continue to see cases in Australia and we need to brace ourselves that we may well see further cases in South Australia,” Dr Cusack said. “We must not lose sight of this and we cannot be complacent.”
This comment is totally off topic, however, I have just tried to book into two “pet friendly” caravan parks but they both said NO CATS ALLOWED. I am sick to death of caravan park owners complaining about free camp sites taking business away from them. If you don’t want my business then stop complaining.
