Following on from the NT’s wildly successful Million Dollar Fish competition, the Territory has launched a similarly lucrative promotion … and one that should appeal to grey nomads who don’t necessarily like to ‘throw in a line’.
The Million Dollar Road Trip NT initiative is designed to entice more local and interstate travellers to the Territory by offering self-drive travellers who visit and explore the NT between now and the end of September a chance to win $1 million cash from the Caravan Industry Association.
The NT Government has partnered with the Caravan Industry Association of Australia to offer self-drive travellers who stay at a participating caravan park in the NT, visit a local NT Visitor Information Centre, or make a purchase with a participating tourism experience or attraction in the Territory, the chance to win the major prize of $1 million cash, or runner-up prizes including $10,000 cash, plus a $500 fuel voucher, or one of 19 $500 fuel vouchers.

NT’s Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, Joel Bowden, said the promotion was an exciting one.
“The Million Dollar Road Trip will encourage travellers to choose the NT for their next drive holiday, incentivise them to explore further off the beaten track and experience an outback Territory adventure in our regions,” he said. “We’re backing the tourism sector, especially those who are seeing the best of the Territory in a caravan, and look forward to welcoming travellers as they head north over the next couple of months.”
Caravan Industry Association of Australia CEO, Stuart Lamont, said the organisation was keen to support the economies of communities’ right across the Territory through increased tourism visitation.
“The Territory is one of the great driving destinations in the world. Offering historical, natural and Aboriginal experiences not found anywhere else on the planet,” he said. “The Territory should be on every Australians bucket list to travel to, and encouraging Australians to escape the cold and visit the Territory this winter.”
The Territory’s tourism drive market is worth over $860 million to the economy – which contributes to local jobs and businesses across the NT.
The chances of actually winning would be astronomical and like the million-dollar fish, would most probably run for a decade or two before a “winner” happens.
Yes we are already going but have an extra incentive now!
would this include motorhomes?
