A 65-year-old woman who went missing on a bushwalk in a national park on the New South Wales south coast has been found and winched to safety.
American tourist, Alyce Tidball, went missing in dense bushland at Deua National Park near Moruya after setting off for a hike on Saturday afternoon. She initially phoned friends to say she had become lost, but her phone battery then died and Ms Tidball spent two nights in the bush.
After a wide-scale land and air search was located and winched to safety by a Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter crew. She was conscious and breathing and was able to speak to her rescuers when she was found. She will require treatment for minor injuries.
Helicopter CEO, Stephen Leahy, told the Batemans Bay Post that Ms Tidball was “just too tired to continue walking out”.
He said it was safer to winch her out and fly her back to the command post.
“She is in great spirits,” he said. “She is tired, but it looking forward to being reunited with friends.”
