Grey nomads still rule the road in some places!
New research has shown that caravan and camping in Australia is really taking off … but it’s not necessarily grey nomads who are leading the charge.
Caravan registrations have been experiencing a higher rate of increase than any other vehicle type in Australia, with a 5% jump in the number of registered RVs or motorhomes. However, Tourism Research Australia says 35 to 49-year-olds now account for about 50% of all travel in the sector.
“The serious growth in the registrations is the family van range,” Stuart Lamont, CEO of the Caravan Industry Association of Australia, told Sydney’s Daily Telegraph. “We’re seeing anecdotal evidence that there are a lot more families going to the caravan and camping shows, and a lot more sales are in that sector.”
The Daily Telegraph reports that, what it refers to as the “stigma” of grey nomads dominating the travel sector, is now gone.
While the traditional grey nomad sector remains strong, it appears that family camping, as well as ‘gramping’, and an increase in Asian visitor numbers are the emerging trends.
Last year, there were 528,869 registered RVs in Australia, with 474,783 being towable vehicles and more than 54,000 being motorhomes or campervans.

Great to see the young ones hitting the road again with their families,it will inspire a new generation, and engender a love of our country in them. I think the modern housing,tiny suburban blocks are making people seek space and nature.
