The Western Australian town of Mullewa is the latest to offer grey nomads and other visitors a startlingly unique welcome.
The small community, east of Geraldton, has just unveiled five giant everlasting flowers made from steel at the entrance to town on the Geraldton-Mount Magnet Road,
Mayor Shane Van Styn told the West Australian newspaper that the entry statement encapsulated the spirit of the rural town.
“The wildflowers in the Mullewa region are one of their biggest attractions so it’s great to have an entry statement that reflects the town’s identity,” he said. “Mullewa especially welcomes a lot of grey nomads and thousands of caravanners every year, and we’re glad that we can give them a warm welcome.”
The mayor said it was becoming increasingly apparent that entry statements were really important in setting the scene for visitors coming to the region.
The flowers were created by Peter James from a design by local artist Eliza Thomas. Mr James used stainless and corten steel to create the flowers. The project was funded by the City and the Royalties for Regions Community Chest Fund.
Probably a good initiative to put the town on the map a bit, and done with local design as well. A winner all round, I guess.
