A zip line or flying fox looks set to be erected through the treetops over Obi Obi Gorge on the Sunshine Coast hinterland as Queensland’s national parks start to change.
The new attraction which is expected to draw thrill-seekers to Kondalilla National Park, outside Montville, will be the first proposal to be approved since the Newman Government unlocked protected forests to private ventures.
It is being reported however that community opposition to the zip line is growing as residents seek to guard their local rainforests.
But the new flying fox could be just the start. Among the other 46 suggestions currently under consideration for Queensland national parks are plans for resorts, permanent tents, eco lodges, and a mountain bike park and adventure course.
The Brisbane Courier-Mail reports that the Green Mountains campground at Lamington National Park, on the Gold Coast hinterland, has also been pushed forward for special attention.
And neglected outback stations in 10 national parks are being touted for investors to repair ruined shearers’ quarters and homesteads.
Statistics show that Queensland parks and forests receive about 16.2 million visits annually, with people spending $4.5 billion.

Sure have a flying fox..destroy trees..destroy peace and quiet of the bush but dont allow people travelling with pets to enter. Smacks of self interest …..they need a good.hard kick up the behind.
