The development of a new caravan park in South Australia’s Riverland district is expected to attract many more grey nomads and other tourists to the area.
The planned $5.2 million park at Waikerie is predicted to add an extra $2 million of economic activity to the area, and to bring in an extra 20,000 visitor nights to Waikerie each year.
The developers, the Edwards Group, said the caravan park would create more accommodation options for visitors and would have a flow-on effect to local businesses.
Caroline Phillips from Destination Riverland agreed.
“This sort of development just adds to the offering to the township and longer term it’s all about getting people to stay longer and spend more money,” she told the ABC. “Tourists are coming here to stay in different styles of accommodation but they’re also spending their money here on fuel, eating out at our various establishments and shopping and retail as well.”
Mmm, “different styles of accommodation” they just can’t help themselves.There is probably enough caravan parks with different accommodation. Would love to se a grey nomad caravan park. No frills, optional power, ammenities block, dump point and room for pets. Spacious caravan sites, a swimming pool (lap pool would do) and barbecue area, BUT no cabins, no jumping castles and no child playground area. If they want them to stay longer, keep fees as low as possible.
