79-year-old caravanner killed in Newell Highway crash

Published: June 25, 2025

A caravanner has died after a two-vehicle crash in north west New South Wales.

Emergency services were called to the Newell Highway at Boggabilla late yesterday afternoon, following reports a truck, and a car towing a caravan, had collided.

Police say the driver of the car – a 79-year-old man – died at the scene.

The passenger – a 75-year-old woman – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Moree Hospital in a serious condition.

The driver of the truck – a 41-year-old man – was uninjured and taken to Goondiwindi Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to New England Police District established a crime scene and the Crash Investigation Unit have commenced an investigation into the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Such are the dangers of travelling North to escape the Winter down South when you’re elderly.
It may have been safer to stay at home.

All age groups are killed on the roads. Younger drivers, particularly those aged 17 to 25, are disproportionately represented in car accidents and fatalities compared to other age groups. We have no idea what happened here, so perhaps save the aspersions.

Not attaching any blame, but the Newell is one of the worst Highways to travel in my view. It is busy, not smooth, lots of trucks in a hurry and many caravanners.
