While many grey nomads are back out on the open road, it is becoming increasingly obvious that the Big Lap lifestyle isn’t returning to completely normal anytime soon.
If any further proof of that fact was needed, it was supplied by Northern Territory Chief Minister Michael Gunner this morning when he revealed he would keep the Territory’s border shut to some for at least another 18 months, and recruit extra police to keep the barriers in place
Mr Gunner told ABC 24 the list of banned states and territories was more likely to increase than decrease, and 18 months was a ‘conservative’ estimate for when the borders would be wide open again.
“We have got an indefinite ban on Victoria, and Sydney keeps bubbling away to a point to I can’t give you a date where that would ever lift,” he said.
“My advice to every Territorian, if you can, stay here in the Territory, you’re safe here, don’t go … if you can, cancel your Christmas holiday plans, stay here in the Northern Territory.”
Currently, anyone coming from Sydney or Victoria must complete two weeks quarantine at their own expense if they want to enter the NT, and everyone must fill in a border declaration pass.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison told reporters he was – against the odds – hopeful there would be a relaxation of some restrictions by Christmas.
“But I think it’s unlikely that we are able to move back to a restriction-free society,” he said. “I doubt that is going to happen. I doubt the medical position will enable that, and so you’ve just got to follow the medical evidence on all of these, whether it’s borders or whether it’s the restrictions on trade or of local businesses or whatever it happens to be.”
We have to return to SA Via the NT from QLD to avoid Iso. Painfull but neccessary as our house has sold in SA Just hope we can then get back!!!
Oh boy won’t this be interesting? We bought our caravan in Qld last November and spent March to July in Nyngan because of Covid-19. We expected that later this year, things would get easier so we went to Queensland 29/7/20. Now, things appear to be getting worse again.
If I didn’t already have my van, I would DEFINITELY not buy one.
How will the caravan industry react?
You might as well close up shop as nothing will be left in the tourist industry, why don’t you block the places that have it, not punish like us who had NONE since day one, plenty of clean area’s around the country, its time we became all Federal, not this narrow minded state by state Upmanship, We use to be Very proud Ozzie’s but no longer.
What state are you in and just what state are you talking about and if your state has no cases what did your state do too be able to protect you..??
Very narrow minded attitude.
We are currently heading for the NT boarder at present whising to travel through the territory into SA . AS far as I see it’s the labour states and territories that seem to be on a power trip and at odds with the commonwealth. One can only hope there shown the door at the elections.
We are all Australians .
Republic of NT, republic of WA, sheesh!
Strange that people mooch their way around this land and freeload at whatever camp ground and dump point they can find, and then pull the political card if that state says anything….We have had a border check point for many years checking for fruit, guns drugs criminals and stolen vehicles just too mention a few… Just now our border check point is looking for people who don’t think that the rules apply to them in regard to a virus that has the ability to kill.. What will it take to convince these people it’s not just about them ?
Dont believe everything you read in this media swamped world.
There is an election on here in the NT and COVID is being used big time by CM. Gunner…
Gunner do this n gunna do that…!
How unfair are WA restrictions? I have been flatly refused entry to WA to celebrate my mum’s 100th birthday.Living in Port Lincoln SA where there have been NO cases,i was going to do a lightning visit.3-4 in WA.Turn around and come home.NO. If i had been allowed i was told i had to stay for a minimum of 14 days. Work that out if you can. 4 days visit verses 14 days.
There is nothing wrong with our restrictions. They are what is keeping your Mother safe… People holiday in their van for months on end, but tell them that they need to live in them for fourteen days and all of a sudden it’s an issue… ” Why can’t I ” Do the fourteen days and then go see your Mum and if you have any time to yourself, have a look around.. Your welcome
Totally agree…Markmack…!
People don’t see the big picture…
Or can’t see the forest for the trees..!
