The Point Gibbon Campground, located at the heart of South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula coast, has just reopened following a significant upgrade.
The Glam Adelaide publication reports that, what was once essentially a track along a cliff where tents and caravans would sporadically camp, the Point Gibbon Campground now features 15 designated, bookable sites.
“There were limited spaces and where people camped really depended on how many caravan/tents etc could fit,” said Franklin Harbour Tourism Officer, Stacey Franklin.
Glam Adelaide reports that the campsite is now formalised and though it is unpowered is fully equipped with toilets, and Wi-Fi.

“Anyone who wants an awesome view of the sea should check it out,” said Ms Franklin. “The beach, sand dunes, and fishing is all at your doorstep … they might even get a glimpse of a sea lion if they walk around the to the point.”
The campground is quite accessible, with bitumen roads from Cowell to Port Gibbon. The road from Port Gibbon to Point Gibbon Campground is part bitumen, then finishes with 5kms on dirt road.
“There is a dump point, water, coin operated showers, boat ramp and playground at Port Gibbon just five kilometres away,” said Ms Franklin. “Cowell is approximately 25 kilometres away, with all services needed such as IGA, fuel, and pubs.”
Glam Adelaide reports that the cost of staying at the rejuvenated campsite, surrounded by white sands, pristine waters, and untouched bushland as far as the eye can see, is $10 per night.

$15 in park $10 on beach parks
I have never been to this place before, but paying $10 per night for a site that was probably free before doesn’t sound like an improvement.
Having designated sites doesn’t justify $10 per night in my opinion.
I wish some people would get a life it’s called respect for the fellow human being . I have camped overnight and next morning woke up to see another camper leave their rubbish on the ground and the bin is within a metre .unfortunately a lack of respect is every where.
Just looked it up it is $30-$40 per night
