Uluru is the scene of a dramatic rescue as emergency teams abseil down Uluru into a crevice to free a tourist who has been trapped for 20 hours.
The ABC reports that the operation to rescue the Taiwanese man began first thing this morning, after he spent the night trapped wearing only shorts and a t-shirt.
The overnight temperature apparently plunged to 6.2 degrees Celsius.
The man became trapped on top of Uluru yesterday afternoon after attempting to take a short cut.
He was spotted by a search helicopter, but it was too late into the night for workers to carry out a rescue.
It is understood police and a woman travelling with the trapped man stayed in contact with him overnight using a loudspeaker.
“We don’t believe he has any injuries but he’s wearing really light clothing, shorts and a t-shirt,” Acting Senior Sergeant Drew Slape told the ABC.
