'We got robbed but we loved our trip here'
A honeymooning couple on the trip of a lifetime through Australia are devastated to discover someone has smashed into their campervan and rifled through their personal possessions and stolen their valuables. A PR disaster for the town where they were – Alice Springs – right? A host of bad memories for the English couple involved, right? No, emphatically wrong on both counts.
While the break-in was a big negative, the community response to the incident has been overwhelmingly positive, and that is what will be longest remembered.
Led by local radio station, 8HA, and its ‘Alice Cares’ Facebook page, donations have flooded in to help Dan and Rosi Price replace items stolen from them, such as an MP3 player and a Laptop computer.
The couple had quit their jobs for an extended holiday in Australia and arrived in Alice Springs after driving from Sydney via Darwin.
The NT News reports that the pair had decided to ‘treat themselves’ to a bush tour, rather than face more driving but, when they got back to town, found their campervan window had been broken and they had been robbed.
Husband Dan had previously visited Alice Springs previously and convinced his new wife to add the town to their itinerary.
“He said it’s amazing and we should come here,” Rosi told the NT News. “And, despite everything, he was right.”
When asked if she was now going to have good memories Alice Springs, Rosi said: ” This is the most amazing experience of our trip and we will tell everyone what you did for us.”
