73-year-old caravanner killed in freak accident in Queensland

Published: October 2, 2023

A 73-year-old man has been killed after being struck by his own vehicle towing a caravan.

The tragedy occurred at Mia Mia, west of Mackay in Queensland early yesterday morning.

Police say the man was travelling on Pinnacle Station Rd in Mia Mia Forest at about 6am when he apparently stopped his 4WD to remove something from the roadway.

The vehicle then rolled forward and collided with the man. The man, who was from Kuttabul in Queensland, died at the scene.

Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating.

In a separate incident in Melbourne’s southeast, a man has been killed after a car clipped a caravan which was travelling in the same direction, and then rolled, before smashing into a pole.

7News reports that the male driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries but his male passenger, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The people in the car towing the caravan were not injured.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
