A caravanner has escaped uninjured after a rollover on Queensland’s Warrego Highway at North Tivoli.
Details are still sketchy about the accident which happened at about 11.20am today, and which blocked Toowoomba-bound traffic for some time.
It is understood that the driver of a LandCruiser towing a caravan lost control of his vehicle on the highway and rolled.
Reports say the driver was ‘lucky’ to walk away unhurt from the crash. It is unclear whether there were other people inside the LandCruiser at the time.
Now I don’t know the circumstances of this perticular event
How ever
I will say it again
Towing a trailer should be a seperate endorsement on a car licence .
What endorsement do you suggest George; MC is the highest you can go.
A B double is easier to drive in a straight line than a 4×4 towing a caravan because the trailers are the same width as the prime mover.
Should be the next step after car before light rigid ect ect and should be about weight distrubition and driving skills when the trailer starts waging the dog, understanding the effect that a passing large vehicle has on the wind , not sure what your point about trailers being the same width as the prime mover is can’t see any difference from a driving stand point .
Just for the record I have had a Semi licence for 40 years and B Double for about 4 years
The way some of these people tow these accidents do not surprise me, I was on the Mitchell Highway a couple of weeks ago doing 100kph when a Land Cruiser towing a large caravan overtook me.
I happened to be behind this as it was happening, I thought that it would probably end up badly when I saw the brake lights come on about the third swoosh from left to right. Happily all ended up ok it would appear. Maybe just a brief endorsement on your licence to say that you have attended a basic towing course would be sufficient to help many.
This happens to be my parents, who thankfully – along with their dog – have no injuries. My dad was a truck driver for over 40 years and holds a HC licence. In addition, they have towed Caravans and Extended Double Horse Floats for the same amount of time. This accident occurred after hitting a large indent in the highway which caused the caravan to start swaying. My parents and their children would deeply like to thank all those would helped at the scene, especially the police, ambulance and those who assisted to get Mum, Dad and dog out safely.
