Grey nomads heading east across the Nullarbor might be in for a bit of a surprise when they arrive at the South Australian border.
The state has shut its border to Western Australia after a hotel quarantine worker in Perth tested positive for Covid-19. The border closure, which applies to all of WA, came into effect late last night.
It follows the decision by the WA government to place Perth, the Peel region and the South West in a five-day lockdown.
SA Premier Steven Marshall says acting ‘hard and fast’ has been effective in controlling the spread of the virus in Australia.
“We have confidence that WA will get on top of this situation and that these restrictions won’t be in place for too long,” he said.
9News reports that the new restrictions also mean anyone who has entered SA from WA since January 26 must self-quarantine and get tested on days one, five and 12.
People can apply for permission to travel from WA to SA for essential purposes. That includes South Australians returning home from WA.
The approach taken by South Australia is more severe than other states, which also brought in travel restrictions. Victoria, Northern Territory, Tasmania and Queensland closed its border to areas affected by the WA lockdown.
For grey nomads and others planning interstate travels, the ever-changing border regulation situation has made it incredibly difficult to do so with any degree of confidence.
It is 10 months since WA last had community transmission of Covid-19 and residents of the state, and travellers there, have long enjoyed freedoms that have been the envy of the world.
No wonder this country is buggered, this is so wrong, no wonder folks don’t want to travel as all the Kings & Queens want to control its people, ONE CASE ONLY and you are sending businesses broke, scomo remove the bloody state borders NOW, you are a gutless Prime Minister.
Its not the Prime Minister we live under a Federation, States have the power.
Go and support Donald in America he sorted out vivid .Like you are pretending it’s not that bad.
I do not believe our beautiful country is buggered. On the countrary, we enjoy many and better controls than heaps of other countries. As they say “love it or leave”. There is also another alternative of course, get yourself elected and solve all the problems you perceive exist. As an aside all educated folks understand the PM does not have the power to remove state borders.
I was brought up to have some respect for the higest office in the land.
By that that I mean the Prime Minister of my country who was voted in by the people of my country. Regardless of my political view.
So in doing that I also have respect for the people of my country.
So if you dont have any respect for our leader, you have shown you do not have any respect for the people of my country.
Pat, well said! Sadly, respect is missing in many parts of our lives.
Is calling our Prime Minister “gutless” an act of treason?? Certainly does not show one bit of respect.
Sari, I do NOT agree with your opinion. Would you prefer a few days inconvenience or have to cope with this horrible virus affecting us as it does in so many other countries? All I can say is – thank you to all those who have worked so hard to keep our country as safe as possible.
Probably in another country it could be treason.
Luckily we have freedom of speech here..(to some degree)
But that doesn’t mean you have to lose respect. Cheers….go well..!
