For any grey nomads still lingering in the NT, the message is clear … watch out for crocs!
A ‘medium-sized’ saltie has just been spotted at popular Manton Dam, 70kms south of Darwin, forcing the closure of all in-water activities, including water skiing, wakeboarding and jet skiing.
A crocodile management team moved in to the area to search for the croc.
And this comes just days after police rescued a man who was stalked by a huge saltwater crocodile at Nightcliff Jetty.
The NT News reports that the beachgoer went for a dip and, after surfacing on a rock bar, came face to face with the adult reptile.

Northern Watch Commander, Mick Fields, explained the man couldn’t get back to shore as the crocodile was blocking his route back to shore.
“This escape plan was prevented by a rather large inquisitive adult crocodile who was stalking him,” he told the NT News. “Water Police members were called out and able to rescue the distressed male from becoming dinner.”
There have also been recent croc spotting at several other waterways popular with visitors, including Casuarina Beach and Butterfly Gorge.
The NT News reports that, at Casuarina Beach, a saltie was seen trying to attack dogs before it retreated to the harbour. And the Butterfly Gorge swimming hole was closed after a two-metre saltwater croc was seen there.
It’s a reminder to grey nomads, and all others – if any was needed – that crocodiles are very much present in Top End waters.
