A caravan ‘incident’ has caused traffic chaos on a Melbourne highway … but not for the reason you might expect.
Rather than some sort of accident or breakdown, the vanner who abruptly pulled up on the side of the Princes Freeway at Laverton North was apparently trying to sell his vehicle!
In a photo released by VicRoads, the caravan and attached four-wheel drive is seen parked in the emergency lane of the city-bound carriageway, just prior to the M80 Ring Road exit. The incident happened early yesterday morning, and the driver was set up in the spot for more than 30 minutes before being asked to move.
“Drivers slowed passing the illegally stopped car and caravan on Princes Freeway,” a VicRoads spokesperson told Yahoo7 News. “This caused significant hold-ups throughout the morning peak.”
A VicRoads spokesman said there was a sign, which appeared to be advertising, but wasn’t sure whether it was on the car or the caravan. It is also unclear what the driver was trying to sell.
In Victoria, drivers can be fined $332 for failing to obey no stopping in emergency lane signs. Fines of $97 also apply for stopping on a freeway or stopping in an emergency lane. Failure to keep clear of emergency vehicles comes with a $282 fine.
Traffic cleared up quickly after the overly keen seller was sent on his way.

When brains were handed out this silly bugger must have been at the end of the line and completely missed out. I hope he sees the error of his ways next time and tries to sell it through the appropriate channels/media.
